Our Casting Process
Creating the wax model is a crucial step in the custom jewelry design process. This model can be sculpted by hand or, more commonly for us, produced using a 3D printer, depending on the complexity and precision required for the piece. The use of CAD allows for intricate details to be easily added or modified, ensuring that the design meets the client’s vision. Once the model is complete, it serves as a reliable prototype that will guide the subsequent casting process, transforming the creative concept into a tangible piece of jewelry.
Cooling marks a crucial transition in the metal casting process, as the flask is carefully cooled and the hardened investment material is broken away to unveil the finished piece. Once the metal casting is revealed, attention turns to cutting the sprue, the channel that facilitated the flow of molten metal into the mold. This is followed by a meticulous cleaning process, where the piece is immersed in a pickling solution to remove any oxidation and residual investment. This step ensures that the final product is not only visually appealing but also free from contaminants that could affect its quality and durability.

Following the pickling process, the jewelry undergoes polishing and finishing, where it is carefully sanded and refined. This stage enhances the smoothness of the piece, bringing out its natural brilliance and preparing it for the final presentation. Each detail in this process contributes to the overall quality and appeal of the custom jewelry, ensuring that it meets the highest standards of craftsmanship.
The flask is placed in a kiln and gradually heated to a precise temperature, allowing the wax to melt away slowly. This process, known as lost-wax casting, results in the wax evaporating completely and leaving behind a hollow cavity that perfectly mirrors the intricate design of the jewelry. As the temperature continues to rise, the flask prepares to receive molten metal, which will take the place of the wax, solidifying into the desired form. This careful procedure is essential for creating custom pieces that showcase both craftsmanship and artistic vision.
The investing process in jewelry making begins with placing a wax model into a metal flask. Once securely positioned, a plaster-like material known as investment is poured into the flask, fully encasing the wax/resin model. This investment hardens over time, creating a sturdy mold that captures every detail of the original design. After hardening, the next steps involve heating the flask to melt away the wax, leaving a precise cavity that will be filled with molten metal to produce the final piece of jewelry.
